Foundations

Foundations provide an essential footing for houses and apartment blocks, not only grounding each plot in a solid way but also ensuring that the resulting structure is stable and exactly where it is supposed to be for the entirety of its life.

Our foundation work encompasses all aspects of building these essential trenches, from the setting out stage to the final excavations and oversites ready for the client’s bricklayers to start work.

Whether a project requires a trench fill or strip foundation or more complex raft or piled ring beam, our operatives have the skills to execute excavations to exacting technical specifications, with management through the tender stage helping to guide our clients towards the right foundation for the site. They will also ensure that the depths, diameters, and trench type adhere to building regulations best practices.

Oversites

While foundations provide the necessary footing for the building, oversites are a fundamental part of a structure’s stability. By creating a solid concrete finish that sits between the foundations and the floor’s surface, oversites provide essential strength and protect the integrity of a building, while also creating a fully airtight seal that eliminates moisture penetration. Oversites are made watertight, secure, and topped off with damp-proofing measures, before applying the concrete finish.

M&J Evans groundwork operatives have the skill and knowledge to complete the oversites process with the precision and attention to detail it demands. We also undertake all the previous processes of foundation and drainage works. We provide all the necessary labour, plant, and materials to complete work to the highest specifications and according to the site plans. We always ensure clients sign off our works as part of our in-house quality assurance process.

Retaining Structures

Land for a development project is rarely flat and level, and that’s where retaining structures come in. In instances where a development site slopes or is hilly, retaining walls keeps soil in its place, making a site safe to build on.

Our management teams and operatives can help advise and implement structures that provide a solid grounding for soil to bear down on. Retaining structures extend to all types of the wall for above ground elevation, from gravity walls and gabions to sheet pile, cantilever, or crib designs.
